This will be for people to give ideas leave images or whatever needs to be done.
A. They can make their own badges and send to William.
B.For everyone else who wants Jeff to carve a badge – here are the updated options:
1. Use the Sharpie and scan your own signature – PM Jeff for the email address….
2. Throw caution to the wind and let me do whatever I want…..(that was Andy’s choice)…..
3. Pick a font of your choice and take a screen capture, or just let me know, and if I have the font, I will carve that….

Let me know either way……Andy is the only one done so far……….

For those with a dremel tool or a little v-groove carving chisel, you can carve your own……just something to think about.

  1. William says:

    Evening all.
Dave, if you will, please update the done list.
    Bill’s Signature block: done
    Texas emblem by Gene: done.

  2. William says:

So the only update I have for today is that we now have a volunteer for the Roger Clark emblem.
    Mark Ted down for that.
    Thank you Ted.

  3. Ted says:

Is anybody doing the 4″ tall REX, yet? If not, that is simple enough that I can do it, but I can’t scroll or jig saw it. I’d have to carve it into the plaque. Let me know and I’ll get right on it. I know time is running short.

    • Ted says:

Darn it, I guess I should read the replies before I post. I would be honored to do the Roger Clark plaque. But like I said, I would have to carve it as I don’t have either scroll saw or jig saw. I’ll dig out a piece of wood for it now and start drawing it up. If somebody is already doing it, no problem.

      • William says:

Ted, it needs to be four inches high total. Because of space constraints though, I’m thinking it’ll be better to make it two lines, Roger, then Clark under that. Maybe about an inch and three quarter tall?
        And carving is just fine.

So can we mark you down as doing the Roger Clark emblem?

        • Ted says:

Mark me down, I’m already on it. Quesiton… should I fancy it up or keep it fairly simple?

          • William says:

That decision in completely up to you Ted. Just make to where you’re happy with it. I’ll look farward to what you come up with.

            • Ted says:

How about thickness, is it 1/4″ like the signature plates? If so, can you thickness plane the back side after I send it? I have 1/4 thick wood but I ask because I have more that’s not 1/4″.

  4. William says:

Something I thought I ought to mention.
The pattern was made on the small size with the intent of me resizing it to however large we desired.
My original plan was to get on it promptly and get it done.
However, after putting some thought and advice from a friend involved in this project too, I have decided on a different plan of attack.
You see, I can cut the portait and make the frame, and attach everything in two days, tops.
So we decided it would be better to wait and see just how many names we have to go on this.
That way we can better determine how large we need the frame to be to hold everything, and in turn, how large the portrait needs to be.

I just thought I ought to let you guys know why you haven’t seen an actual portrait cutting yet.

    • Chris (Lightcs17776) says:

William, I plan to get my name plate done this weekend. I’ll be working both days, but I think it will work out. If it doesn’t get to you in time, move on without it. I don’t want to hold up any progress.

      • William says:

As long as I get all the names by the end of April, first part of May, everything will be just fine. So as long as everyone gets theirs in the mail in the next week or so, noone should be left out.
Thank you for your consideration, but the only reason I keep mentioning it is that I do want as many names as possible, with noone left out.

  5. Bill Modrosic says:

Dave, my signature is in the mail heading to William.

  7. Ted says:

Dave, you can move my name from the Not Yet Heard From list to the Names For Signing Plaque list. I have a rototool so will make mine and send it. I don’t have a shop or tools to speak of, but if there’s anything I can do that doesn’t involve working the wood, just let me know and I will gladly help out in any way I can.

    • David Bardin says:

      Ted Is back woooooo woooooo

      • William says:

        Thank you Ted.
I’ll check in a bit and send you my address if I haven’t already done it.

The only thing we do not have a volunteer for yet is Rex’s name, Roger Clark. It needs to be two lines, no more than four inches tall. I’m thinking about an inch and three quarter high letters on a four inch by whatever it takes. Roger on one line and Clark on the next.
It can be scrolled, carved, whittled, or whatever other creative ways someone can do it.
        Any takers?

        • Ted says:

I’m on it! Checking fonts right now to get some ideas. If the piece is a little thick, can you plane the back off? I have a piece of Makore that is just under 3/8″ thick. I can find something else if need be.

  8. Bill says:

Sorry for the confusion there William. I knew you had me listed as Jeff doing mine, but he knew what I was doing.

  9. William says:

I’ve gotten a message tonight from someone changing theirs from one option to the other. It is getting hard to keep up with.
If I miss ANYONE who needs me address, please do not hesitate to ask for it.

  10. William says:

Add Bob (Grizzman) to the list.
I think he is doing his own and sending it. If not, I will do his.

  11. doe says:

I’ll send Jeff a signature. Thanks.

  12. William says:

If I have missed anyone, I want to take this opportunity to say thank you so much for participating in this.
I need some help from all of you now.
We still need a volunteer to do a scrolled cutting or carved piece four inches tall, as long as needed, and a quarter inch thick. We need his name, Roger Clark. I can do this in a matter of minutes, but I’d much rather have as many hands in the construction of the pieces as we can.
Next, I need you all to contact anyone else you can think of who may wish to be a part of this. Direct them here so they can ask any questions they may have about what they need to do in order to get their name on it. I know he had many friends besides just our little group. Get the word out if at all possible. If we get too many, I’ll just adapt the frame to hold as many as I need to.

Any of you who Jeff is doing work for, please get in contact with him as soon as possible so he doesn’t run up on a time crunch at the end of the month.
Any of you sending your blocks to me, I am making a list as soon as I finish typing this and sending out private messages on Lumberjocks tonight with my address to send them to.

Again, thank you all for your participation in this special project in honor of a very special friend.

  13. Sandra Christopher says:

Please count me in. I’ll send a signature to Jeff.

  14. Stumpy Nubs says:

If you tell me the size and type of wood, I’ll sign and send a block too.

    • William says:

      Thanks Stumpy.
The block needs to be about a quarter inch thick, inch inch tall, and from two to four inches wide.

      • David Bardin says:

William if I follow these dementions can it be metal?

        • William says:

Sure it can Dave. you know I’ll figure out some way to attach it. If nothing else, epoxy can be a man’s best friend.
Anyone who wishes, you can be creative as you want to be. The only stipulation is the size. It can’t be over four inches wide, and around an inch tall, and around a quarter inch thick. The reason for that is to be able to easily and neatly put everything on the frame.
I think Rex would appreciate creativity more than an unforgiving set of rules. We all know he was not one to follow the rules if he could get away with it.

Bill here, I will email my signature to Jeff tomorrow.

  17. Chris (Lightcs17776) says:

I’ll send a signature block to Jeff. I’ll begin the Union Jack tomorrow night. How quickly do we need these in the mail? Also, how thick of wood? And do I get points deducted if it isn’t professional quality????

    • William says:

Everything needs to be around a quarter inch thick. If it is a tad thicker, don’t worry, we can work with that.
There is no points given, so I don’t recon we can deduct what we haven’t given you. I’m sure you’ll do just fine.

      • Chris (Lightcs17776) says:

Thanks for the vote of confidence, William.

      • William says:

I forgot to answer another question you had, when does this need to be mailed.
I am hoping that this can be taken to the cookout we are having on May 16th and handed over to whoever has Rex’s family’s address. So I would very much like to have everything by the end of April. If that is not possible for everyone, please let me know so I can make other arrangments somehow.
So does this work for everyone?

    • David Bardin says:

Great to have you aboard Chris.

  18. William says:

    We have two new volunteers.

4×4 – 4×6 Union Jack emblem (not sure of name, look here{}). Can someone doublecheck to be sure this is in fact the correct flag?: Chris (lightcs1776 on Lumberjocks)
4 inch tall x as long as needed REX emblem:NEED VOLUNTEER: Jeff (JL7 on Lumberjocks)

  19. JL7 says:

William – I’ll do the REX also if it’s still open…….how thick??

    • William says:

Thank you Jeff. I will put you down for that.
A quarter inch I think will work out fine.

Does a quarter inch thick and 1×4″ work for everyone on the signing blocks?

  20. JL7 says:

William or Dave? – add my name to the signing my own block list….Thanks!

  21. Anonymous says:

Gary I will send a block

    • William says:

      Thank you Gary.
I will start sending out private messages tomorrow on Lumberjocks with my address so you all can send them to me to put on the frame.

  22. DIYaholic says:

Randy here. I will supply my own “signature block”.

  23. William says:

Dave, you can add beside my name that I’ll be signing my own piece of wood, and you can go ahead and make a notation of how you intend to do yours.
As names go up, I’ll write emails or personal messages to each peron (I’ll try to work on it each night) to find out how they wish their name to be done; personally signed, emailed to Jeff, or simple text.

Also, is there a way to add a reply button to the original post so people can easily reply to it and add their names.

Everyone else, it also would help if you let us know when you add your name how you intend to have your’s done.

    • David Bardin says:

William it it a expanding tree. Just as I am replying to this branch of the thread.
You have the ability to click the notify me when follow-up comments are posted on each post. You will then get an email. I will be checking each day a few times to update. Let me know if there is anything you want posted at the top and I will.

      • William says:

        Thanks Dave.
I was worried about it all. I think it’s coming together though.

You are doing good on keeping a running list.
I guess we also need a running list of who is doing what posted in the main body.

  24. William says:

    Here we go.

I will post this directly to your site as well Dave.
If anyone has any changes, questions, or wants to volunteer for any part we need, please let myself or Dave know.

I will do the portrait and frame.
    What I as follows:

    Photo and frame: William
    Name coordination: Dave
4×4 Texas emblem: Gene Howe (need a quarter to three eighths inch thick Gene)
4×4 – 4×6 Union Jack emblem (not sure of name, look here{}). Can someone doublecheck to be sure this is in fact the correct flag?: NEED VOLUNTEER
4 inch tall x as long as needed Roger Clark emblem: NEED VOLUNTEER
4 inch tall x as long as needed REX emblem:NEED VOLUNTEER

Dave, I need you to coordinate names.
Maybe everyone who is interested in having their names included can be listed on your page you created?
    Everyone will have three options.
    1. They can make their own badges and send to me.
    2. They can contact me and request that their name be on in in plain type without actually signing it. In these cases, I will get with Jeff and get him to make these tags up on his CNC and send to me.
    3. They can coordinate with Jeff. He will need the signatures emailed to him in the fashion described here ( so he can make them up and send to me.

I will now copy and paste this over on Dave’s site. Please let me know anything I’ve missed.
I will post any new items of interest here. I will also post everything from here on out on Dave’s site here so that it will all be in a central location.

Anyone wishing to go back to the original posting of this on Lumberjocks can find it here:

    • William says:

      For the signature blocks,
      I am thinking 1×4x a quarter inch.
If anyone doesn’t have a good way to cut your material down to a quarter, I can run it though my bandsaw and slice off the top quarter inch. That is no problem. I just need it to not be longer than four inches so it’ll fit the frame.
It can be taller than one inch if someone wishes to include a longer written message. The problem there is I need to be sure everyone doesn’t go crazy. If we were to get enough people doing that, it could fill the frame pretty quickly.

Forge a whitty reply.
