Baby Crib Build

My youngest daughter is pregnant. My fear is it might be twins.

Anyway, we are in need of a baby crib. So I went to our local hardwood dealer and purchased some Cypress. I wanted to use Mississippi woods. I choose Sweetgum as a secondary.

One of the members here (JL7) sent me some plans. I wanted quick and simple but you know how that always works out.  I have cut though my dowels, had splitting and am finding that cypress is a bit week for a rocker. All these problems will have to be addressed as I finish. I am about half way through the build. This is what I have so far.

Here is my daughter and wife.

Leave a comment, and thanks for your time.

Please be careful. Some of the things I do are dangerous. It is not my fault if you get hurt. Use your brain, be safe.

My internet finally decided to play nice and let me watch the video. Looks like a fun project, Dave. I hope building the second one for the twin is as much fun as the first. 🙂 But you know, if you really want to avoid having grand-twins you should go ahead and build two cribs now, because that’s the way it always works. Kind of like washing you car because you’re sure it’s not going to rain.

And bowties!!! Yay! I like them bowties.. they look nice. 🙂

Thanks Ted, I have the templates made up, the second one will be easier. And if I want to prevent this one from having future kids, I think I might chase the boyfriend around the yard with a big stick.
Thank you Ted, glad to see ya!

  2. Congrats. Grandkids are the best.

Twins, Been there, done that. She should be finding out soon if that’s the case. Then your workload will double Papaw…..

So this will be a “Formal” crib, what with bowties and everything!!! Alluding to Jeff’s comment, you’ll have to work double time to build this crib’s “twin”!!!

I enjoy your videos. I find that I learn something just about everytime I view one. Although I’m not really a handtool guy, I often see a technique or skill I need to file away for future use.

Hey Jeff, she is awful big at 3 months and twins run in this family BAD!
Hopefully I will get some shop time this weekend.
    More to come.

TWINS?! You better build two just in case!!

This is looking good Dave – You will overcome these little setbacks…….waiting patiently for the dovetails….:) Thanks for the update!

Hope you get it finished before she gets to the finish . LOL! It always takes more time than I estimate.

Doc we have 6 months and even with this summer heat I hope to be done. And yes it generally take me twice as long to finish a project. I guess we don’t factor in the problem time that you have to work out. Thanks for stopping by.
