Baby Crib Finish

Well I had time in the shop today to finish the crib. It is functional and I hope the Cypress holds up. I used Red Cedar for the bottom so I managed to stay with the Mississippi wood theme. In this video you will see me dovetailing the corners. Originally I wanted to build it where is would be pegged and would have the ability to break down. The fear of the weak Cypress made me go to the dovetail joinery. There are some gaps and you will see me fixing those. I have placed Boiled Linseed Oil on it for the finish. I did not want a film coat because of the baby. I will apply a few more coats and wax it.

I would like to thank JL7 for the plans. And all you other friends for your input and egging me along.

Thanks for viewing and leave a comment.

I will let you know how it works out.

Please be careful. Some of the things I do are dangerous. It is not my fault if you get hurt. Use your brain, be safe.

Thanks Stumpy, I think this part of woodworking is better than anything else. When you make a family member happy it can’t be beat.
Thanks for stopping by. And come again.

Dave – nice finish! That really turned out great! I think the cypress really looks nice, but I’ve never worked it before, so I guess it was a challenge…..

The red cedar is beautiful also – good choice……and junior will always be smelling fresh. No need to change diapers……..bonus!

No better gift you could give to your daughter and grand-baby than I one you made yourself…..nicely done my friend….

Jeff she patted her tummy and said ” See your already spoiled.” Oh man that made every minute I spent in 115 degrees worth it.
