Wooden Music Book
I had asked for some wood for my birthday. And as asked I received a few nice pieces of hard wood. I got some Maple and walnut plus a piece of Texas Ebony.
I had paid a visit to Williams shop and he helped me split a piece in half.
I had been planning to make the wife a music box for some time now. I have been saving parts and pieces for a few months. I now have all the parts to assemble the box.
Looking around the internet I found a few old wood book boxes and thought that would be a good theme.
I wanted it to look like a real book.
I used a number of handtools in the making of this project.
These are some silver pieces I want to use on the project.
William gave me the a very important part. Fur Elise
I have a little demo about card scraper sharpening.
And I know in the video I called the burnisher an embellisher. I just could not for the life of me remember what to call it.
I want to put the jewelery pieces imbedded in the wood. What would be a good clear finish to poor over the pieces to encase them in the wood? As clear as possible.
A short video.
As always guys and gals, Thank you for your time and comments.
Come again

cool music box Dave. Nice work.
Thanks Don. Come again.
As always Dave.
It looks awesome.
Great job.
You make me smile!
Looking good Dave – love the music book idea! Thanks for scraper sharpening tips, perfect for the birdseye! Looking forward to part 2!
Jeff I was so scared of tear out on the birds eye The scraper was the best bet. I scraped that board I know for 2 hours. It came out NICE!
Yep – had to watch it a couple more times……that scraper is really singing on that maple….nice. The toolbox is looking good back there too….that’s a great shot…..
Thanks Jeff. I had planed down the lumber yard marks but scraping was the only way for me.
The grain is nuts on that board.
Dave, thanks for sharing your scraper sharpening process. I’ll have to invest in a small diamond stone when I get a chance. I know my using a file is costing me more metal than necessary. The music box is beautiful.
