Tobacco Box

My old box had gotten way to small, so i picked me some cypress out of the bin and built a new one.

The box is sawn, planed and joined by hand.

This is a simple build. I have only waxed the box.

I also show an old wrench and horse shoe I removed the rust from with electrolysis.

I intend on hanging the shoe above my anvil upside down. But that is another story.

    Sorry Dave,
My brain must be rusty, as I don’t have a whitty reply. Perhaps I am in need of an electrolysis bath for my head!!!

You do make the dove tails look easy to do. I guess that is what happens when you get good!!!

I didn’t see safety cat, hope all is ok!!!

Randy it will come to you later and you can save it for the next time. I kinda get tired of them after so many. I want to do a hope chest and that will be a lot. Safety is fine, he is out in the yard with the other cats having a grand ole time.
      Thank you.

  2. Smokin hot! Wait…..that just don’t sound right! I love the top piece. Waste not want not.

Don when they sold me the cypress she said “and some is a bit pecky.” I love the terms for knots, rot and bug holes. But I do love “inclusions” they give the wood character.
      Thank you Don

Very nice Dave….dovetails look great….like the floating bottom…..

Tip of the day…..don’t drink the electrolysis water……..:) The wrench cleaned up nice, the horse shoe still looks well worn, but should still serve it’s purpose……….may the forge be with you…..

I was wondering about safety cat as well…….what’s up?

Thank you Jeff that plow is a pain to get to work. It has so much slop in it. I need a new “old” one. I will find me a good one.
The shoe was found on an antebellum plantation field. I suspect it is well over 200 years old. Rought iron will rust to a point then develop a rust barrier that slow the deterioration down on the rest of the piece. That is why so many old tools are still around.
He is fine I will post a picture latter.
      Thanks ;)
